APPROVALS
MT joints impress railway company
Elektro-Thermit has received approval in Algeria for its 6-hole MT bonded insulated rail joint.
Following successful negotiations with SNTF (National Rail Transportation Company) in Algiers, Elektro-Thermit was able to install two MT joints on the busy Algiers–Constantine route. Our Technical Service team and our Algerian distribution partner completed their installation in July 2018. During the course of this work, the latter's welders were also given training on how to install these MT joints on SNTF's tracks in future. After they were installed, both joints were subjected to 12 months' worth of testing by inspectors from SNTF's Regional Directorate for Infrastructure in Algiers. Additional documents were submitted in the past two years. The high quality and excellent properties of the insulated rail joints along with the satisfactory results obtained from field testing resulted in the final approval being issued at the end of 2020.
EGYPT
Supply of welding kits and equipment
Elektro-Thermit has supplied welding kits and equipment for the "10th of Ramadan Light Rail Transit" project.
The new 68 km-long Light Rail Transit network near to Cairo runs from El Salam via New Administrative Capital to Madinat al-Aschir min Ramadan (known in English as 10th of Ramadan City). It will be the first electrified route in Egypt and is due to open in October 2021. Trial operations are due to take place in August 2021. Elektro-Thermit has supplied welding kits and welding equipment, including Smartweld Petrol, to the joint venture tasked with completing the welding work. Welding kits were also delivered for the further expansion of Cairo Metro Line 3. The particular challenge associated with this project was the 33C1 check rail profile, which required the development of new moulds.
FINLAND
Major order for Raide-Jokeri project in Helsinki
Raide-Jokeri is a 25 km-long urban railway line running between the districts of Itäkeskus in Helsinki and Keilaniemi in Espoo, the construction of which started in summer 2019.
The ultra-modern railway line is due to replace the existing main bus route, allowing growing numbers of passengers to be served in future. In this particular project, our client was commissioned with building the track. It was previously the case in Finland that only the Thermit® SoWoS method was used to weld flat bottom rails. However, our client has now been convinced of the benefits of our SkV-Elite L25 welding process and the Smartweld Jet. As a result, test welding sessions were held at the welder training school in Kouvola in 2019. The Smartweld Jet was then tested out over a two-month period on the construction site for the Tampere tram project. Work is currently ongoing together with the client to implement the Smartweld App and Dari®.
